City of Lodi Issues

Jobs and Economy

The city receives revenues from property and local sales taxes. Revenues have fallen because of decreased property taxes, foreclosures and high unemployment. (Stockon, the largest city in our county, has been cited as one of the ten worst housing markets in the United States with unemployment at 16.5% and foreclosures at 4.3 %.) All levels of government should work to create jobs and improve the economy during the worst recession since the Great Depression. Our highest priority must be on jobs and economy.

Encouraging people to shop locally must be our cities focus. Lodi offers a wealth of resources that are the finest in the Valley. I support the Enterprise Zones and as a fellow businessman will work with other business owners to promote local commerce.

I pledge to keep money in taxpayer’s hands by voting for a fiscally sound budget without raising taxes.

Safe Streets, Schools and Parks

A well trained and innovative staff of Public Safety Officers is essential. We should not sacrifice the safety of Lodi to make up budget shortfalls.

Education

As a City Council member I will actively work with the Lodi Unified School Board and Staff to ensure the children of Lodi have the finest education. I support class size reduction for all of Lodi’s Schools.

Lodi Electric Utility

The city should continue to own the Lodi Electric Utility, a utility it has owned since 1909.

Water

I want Lodi to work with other cities and government agencies in the county on a regional water plan. I will continue to oppose the peripheral canal.

Highway 12

During my time in the Assembly, I worked to keep Highway 12 safe. I will continue this endeavor as a City Council Member.
